My KC Adventure

About being a dad and Leading the puppet team at my church

It’s Good 2B Organized!

Now armed with pre-made scripts AND
a chance to properly rehearse them AND
a brand new puppet stage for the younger children downstairs (Can you dig it!!!) we can really strive for excellence!!!

But best of all it’s great to hear how much the children enjoy the shows.

Who knows, they might even learn something valuable along the way.  😉

The Holiday Train is Coming

The Canadian Pacific Railroad Holiday Train is coming to Schenectady.

(From the  Daily Gazette-)

“Canadian Pacific’s 11th annual Holiday Train will stop for the first time in Schenectady on Sunday, bringing along free music and cheer and collecting donations for the local food pantry.

The train will stop at the road-level railroad crossing on Maxon Road Extension at approximately 9:20 p.m. It will remain there until 10 p.m.

Police will block off Maxon Road Extension at Erie Boulevard and at Alexander Street starting at 9 p.m. Parking will be allowed at a siding near the crossing, according to Canadian Pacific spokeswoman Breanne Feigel.

The train also will stop in Cobleskill and Delanson on Sunday, and Saratoga Springs on Monday.”

In years past we’ve met the train when it went through Delanson NY about ten miles south of where we live.  Not only was it great to see the train all lit up but Delanson is small enough and far enough from the beaten track that it still has a Norman Rockwell feel to it even in the 21st Century.

However this year they’re passing right around the corner in the North West corner of my city which will be very handy since it will be late on a school night.  At least the weather will be nice.

Greater Love Hath No Father,

Greater love hath no father than he march with his kids alongside a silly float in the local holiday parade.

OK, truth be told it was a blast.

Nothing like having the streets lined with people cheering for their favorite local magnet school to bring out everyone’s inner child.

Woo Hoo!

Waterfalls Baby!

Helmcken Falls in Wells Gray Park. This is (on...
Image via Wikipedia

Today was all about waterfalls, baby!  Which made me think of Niagara Falls.  Being the cybergeek that I am I had to look up all kinds of stuff on the internet.

So when I looked  up Niagara Falls on “Good Search,”

That’s when I found the Niagara Falls webcam.

Then there’s the nearest thing to Big Niagara in the Albany NY area, Cohoes Falls.

The whole point being about letting God’s love flow like a big waterfall.

Don’t block the love, let it flow!

Operation Andrew

From the latest church newsletter . . .

Unlike adults, most children are free off fear when sharing
their faith with others and we want to help them do that. This fall, we are
offering your 1 thru 6th grade children the opportunity to create a short list
of friends, family and neighborhood children whom they will pray for, be a
friend to and invite to a special day of fun on November 15th in Kids’ Celebration.  We are calling this outreach Sunday “KidzFest” and will be using a pamphlet called “Operation Andy” from the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association. The pamphlet is named for the Apostle Andrew who brought his brother to see Jesus (John 1:41-42).”

One thing I’ve learned about the way God uses our kids.  The wise adult knows how to get out of the way!  Kids always share what they really like with their friends.  If they know how to pray they share it with their friends.  If they love their church group, they’ve already invited their friends.

Kid’s Fest and Operation Andrew are both a heads up for all of us grown ups.  The Holy Spirit will be using our children to start the next revival.

After all, Andrew didn’t just bring his brother Peter to Jesus.  He was also the one who found a little boy with five loaves and two fish!  Look what Our Lord did with that!

Drafted Part 3

They were spying on me Sunday!  The KC coordinator and her two cohorts were watching me from the back while I was the Kidmo MC for the Eleven O’clock service.

Who knows it might have been while I was passing out balls for team points, or maybe it was while we were doing all the motions for this weeks “Memory Max,” or it might have been while we were watching Johnny Rodger throw up all the rotten fruit he tried to eat from a dumpster!

(“Eeeeeeeeeeeeeewwwwwwwww, gross!

Turn to your neighbor and say ‘That’s NAS-teeeeee!'”)

All I know is after all the kids were dissmised they pounced on me to give me their report.  It seems I’ve been just about drafted into staying on to help out once the summer session ends.

I told them they were too late.  The Holy Spirit and I had already worked it out.  Actually He’s the one that works it out and we just say,

“Yes, Lord!”

Talk about getting drafted!  😉

Sunday went smoothly, although from time to time my daughter had to remind me to do something. (Oops!)

Meanwhile as all bible teachers know, first the teacher has to be taught the lesson.   And when the lesson is patience . . . oh my…!

Who’d a Thunk it?

Back in the day when I was a member of the Holier than most, “Jesus Only,” cult if you had told me that one day there would be over 800 fellowships in America that follow a “One Church, Many Locations” pattern, I would have scoffed in your face.

“You mean everyone watches the senior pastor on a jumbo-tron screen and he’s not even in the building?  That can’t work!”

Well yes it can.  And it does!  In fact it frees up allot more space for growth and sets allot of people free to minister more effectively.  And making more and better disciples is what it’s ALL about.

Meanwhile back in those days if you had told me that I would drive 10 miles from my home in my small city to go to a church in the suburbs I’d have said,

“Get thee behind me!”

Especially if you had said the church was in the Town of Halfmoon.

“Halfmoon?  No Way!”

Way!  In fact I’ve never felt like I belonged more than I’ve felt now, and I got knit in so fast.  Part of it is God’s timing part of it’s the people and allot of it’s knowing that I don’t have to try so hard to prove myself.   Of course much of it has to with the fact that it took 10 years to get me out of a cult.  But it took another 2o something years to get the cult out of me!

But here I am.  Proud to belong to a satellite church that draws in part from the same area as the old cult church did.  And it feels so good to be SO OK with that!

Who’d a thunk it?!

And now it’s time to take it to the next level!  To go from being a classroom helper to a facilitator!  AKA a summer CO-OP Kidmo MC!

Pray for me!

(I know it’s gonna be a blast!)  🙂

Me and the Wii 2

Yesterday was a special day at Kid’s Celebration.

NOT ONLY was a able to prepare the classroom without needing my cheat sheet,

NOT ONLY because I’m getting to know the kids better, (Thank You Jesus!)

BUT for the first time!

I successfully  set up and played a game on the Wii

Whoo hoo!

This could be the only place where someone can say without fear of getting locked up,

“I learned how to Wii today!”  😉

Our Seaside Adventure

Last Sunday we were on our way down to the Jersey shore for our annual ocean fix. The Lord really blessed our time down there. I’d write more about it here but to go off topic on a blog set up for a specific purpose is

*not KEWL!*

That’s why for my general things I started “The Lucky Loser,” (Because in God’s Kingdom when you lose you win!) and for political stuff there’s “Larry’s Internet Soapbox.”   Because some people down in Washington and Albany REALLY need to just … (WHOOPS  my bad!)

But speaking of Kid’s Celebration and Kidmo the Jersey shore is the perfect place to put on a pair of sunglasses and call everyone …  “DUDE!”

(Until you get thwaped on the head that is)
